Sex " Relationships What to do when you feel locked in bedWe are always hearing that we could be having. No gender, sexual orientation or question is out of limits, and all questions remain anonymous. Now, on today's theme: how to overcome them. We're always hearing that we could have better sex, a better orgasm, or a better relationship. But how often do we hear the nitigritty of how we can better understand our deepest wishes and more embarrassing questions? Bustle has enlisted Vanessa Marin, a sex therapist, to help us with the details. No gender, sexual orientation or question is out of limits, and all questions remain anonymous. Now, on today's theme: how to overcome them.Q: Often, when I'm in, I will feel overwhelmed, and will have to pause. It's always been like that—it needs to stop a few times as I go—but lately I've been wondering if it's a block I should try to get through. It's, so sometimes I feel like I'm stopping when it's getting really good, but I'm worried about what's gonna happen if I let myself go. What's going on? Should I come in? How?A: Thank you for the question! It can be so frustrating to feel right on the edge of something awesome, just to end up feeling like you've been blocked. orgasms can easily be distracted! There are a number of possible reasons why you might feel blocked at that particular time. I think it's very useful to think about your locks out of the bedroom, minimize distraction when you're with your partner right now. We're going to overcome six possibilities that could be causing your mental blockades, and . Possibility #1: You don't know what an orgasm feels like I wasn't clear about your question if you had orgasms in the past, so I thought it was a good place to start. Many women have never had an orgasm before, and sometimes there is a fear of the unknown that can arise. You could worry about what having an orgasm will really be like, and that fear can end up preventing you from having one. If you think this can be the case for you, take a look at my manual, and five real women. I also recommend you so much that you be alone. You can learn to give you an orgasm, in the privacy of your own space. So you'll know what to look for when you're with a partner. I also found it helpful to compare having an orgasm to . When you were a virgin, you didn't know how sex would be. You may have felt anxiety about your first time, but you didn't let anxiety cripple you. You jumped to the bottom and had sex, though I didn't know exactly what to expect. Try to think about your orgasms the same way. You won't know exactly what comes (no aim!) but you can show the same courage you did when you lost your virginity. Possibility #2: You are afraid to lose control Our society is obsessed by control. We want to be in charge of every minute of our lives, and we can feel incredibly anxious when we're not in the driver's seat. Unfortunately, it often controls a myth. There are so many aspects of our lives that we have absolutely no control over, and orgasm is one of those — but that's what makes such a fun orgasm! Think at a time when you and your girlfriends laughed so hard that none of you could stop. Or think of the last time someone surprised you with a romantic gesture. I'm willing to bet that fond memories come to mind. The point is that you don't need to be in control of something to have to be pleasant. If you are still afraid of the physical experience of losing control, it is important to understand that having an orgasm does not mean that you lose full control of your body. - but it's not like you're gonna start violently convulsing. You're not gonna get up and start running around the room. You won't become a completely different person. This may seem obvious, but there are so many women who don't realize how much they are psyching themselves about "what will happen" if they let go. At this moment, try to remind you of these realities. Possibility #3: Don't feel comfortable with your partnerHaving an orgasm is a vulnerable experience. Sometimes our bodies can feel blocked because we don't fully trust the people we're sleeping with. Even if you think you're comfortable with that person, your body can still be collecting in some kind of energy that you don't like. Did they ever get a "uncanny life" from someone, even though they were not actually doing or saying anything that strange? That is a main example of your mind and body collecting different signals. If you have felt blocked with certain partners but not with others, it can be the way your body send you a message that you are simply not ready to have an orgasm with that particular person. In some cases, the whole body may need is a little more time to meet your partner. In others, it could be a sign that this person is not the right one for you. Possibility #4: You've had bad sexual experiences kills me every time I have to write this, but in your life. Uncountably more have had sexual experiences that felt difficult or uncomfortable. Our bodies cling to that trauma, even if our minds think we are "on it." If you have experienced any kind of negative sexual experience, it may be very difficult to remain present at the time and to allow yourself to experience pleasure. If you have experienced any type of trauma, I recommend reviewing Staci Haines' book and considering booking a consultation with a psychotherapist. Possibility #5: You are distracted We are a multi-takers culture. We pass by Facebook as we brush our teeth, watch TV while we eat, and we answer emails while we have conversations with our friends. Our brains are so used to being in overdrive mode that it can be hard to relax and focus on one task at a time! If you feel that your brain will be hay during sex, you may want to take the meditation. I really like the app, which is great for meditation rookies. You can also try to make a challenge without multiplying; for one day a week, try to do only one activity at a time. It will feel ridiculously challenging at first, but slowly it will become easier. A great strategy you can use during sex is to invent a mantra to help you get back to the moment. When you start to wrap yourself in thoughts about your block, say to yourself, "OK, I am distracting again, but I want to try to focus on pleasure instead." Keep your attention gently back to the present moment. You can also try to take slow and deep breaths, which will help you relax and feel more connected to your body. The point is to focus on the sensations you feel in your body, and not to think specifically about the blockage. Possibility #6: You're just not sure what the block is aboutSometimes it may feel very hard to know what that damn obstruction is about! If none of the above possibilities are resonant to you, try to ask yourself, "what am I afraid?" or "what is the worst that could happen?" Your adult brain will kick immediately and say, "this is so dumb! There is nothing to fear!" Try to put those thoughts aside and keep wondering with curiosity and openness. Or try a different tactic by visualizing you having an orgasm with someone, and see what happens to you. These small exercises can help you get to the root of what is happening for you at those locked moments. You may not be able to come with a concrete reason why you feel locked at the time, and that's fine! Our bodies do not always work in logical ways, so it is not worth going crazy trying to "understand." I know it's hard, but try to focus that attention on keeping you at the moment. The mantra trick can be very useful. Keep reminding you what you would really like to focus, experience or enjoy at the moment. You'll be through those locks soon. Good luck!
